CONS
- Leave a hazardous impact on the environment, destroying terrain and further polluting bodies of water
As Richard Turco of UCLA stated, the effects would be "much greater than what we're talking about with global warming and anything that's happened in history with regards volcanic eruptions."
- Leads to destruction in many countries and causes for a large fatality rate
"My feelings of revulsion and foreboding about nuclear weapons had not changed an iota since 1945, and they have never left me. Since I was 14, the overriding objective of my life has been to prevent the occurrence of nuclear war."
-Daniel Ellsberg
- Has a strong toll on the countries' economy, as nuclear weapons cost a lot to maintain and purchase.
"Every dollar spent on nuclear is one less dollar spent on clean renewable energy and one more dollar spent on making the world a comparatively dirtier and a more dangerous place, because nuclear power and nuclear weapons
go hand in hand."
-Mark Z. Jacobsen
Just as nuclear weapons demonstrate strength for a country, they also represent great weakness. The lack for the nation’s leaders ability to negotiate through the written word rather than using nuclear weapons shows its worth. Rather than using violence to resolve problems, we should utilize treaties and agreements that could further unite the country. These weapons come with a grand price, as they harm our environment beyond measures, are expensive to produce, and lead to a high fatality rate for years to come. After all, nuclear weapons are just machines. And like all machines, things can go wrong.
